I feel horrible that I keep meaning to post about Alicia Ross's new series of works, Motherboards...well, here it is. I met Alicia through a mutual friend and Texas based artist, John Aasp, who happens to be the director of the Rockport Art Center, in Rockport, TX.
Back to Alicia, I received an email from her a week or so ago announcing that her work will be showing in Chicago, IL, April 25-28, at the Merchandise Mart and part of Artropolis, in an exhibition titled, NEXT/ Invitational Exhibition of Emerging Art. A brief description of her new work:
The series, which is an evolution of her Sampler series, consists of life-size, cross-stitch embroideries that depict appropriated figures in various positions and narratives. These embroideries focus on the unusual translation of pixel to stitch and the tension between two female conflicts: object of sexual desire vs. mother/nurturer.
Congrats, Alicia and good luck with your solo exhibition in September.
